How bore mop sizing works
Bore mops are sized by caliber family, not by exact cartridge. A cotton mop compresses as it enters the bore, so one size covers a range of cartridges with the same bore diameter. That's why a .22 mop works in a .22 LR and a .223, and a .30 mop works in a .308 and a .30-06.
Airgun calibers
PCP Airgun calibers are often listed in millimeters. .22 Airguns are 5.5mm and .30 Airguns are 7.62mm. Our mops are sized with these barrels in mind, which is the main reason we started Barrel Shark.
A good fit feels like this
- The mop enters the bore with light, even resistance.
- It contacts the whole bore surface without needing to be forced.
- If it won't start without heavy force, it's too big for that bore: stop and check your caliber.
Thread
All Barrel Shark mops use a standard 8-32 male thread, the most common cleaning rod thread. Check that your rod has an 8-32 thread before you buy.
